So he pretty much confirms the 512 bit memory bus and WHQL Vista drivers upon launch of R600. Hopefully power consumption and noise isn't too bad with this card. I'm more interested in what ATi has to offer in the mobile space with R600 since nVidia has been dominating that sector in the high end for the past year.

PCGH: One question about performance: I know you can't answer to any details, so I'll be very vague about it. Did you hit you initial clock target for R600 or did you even exceed it?

Vijay Sharma: Oh, I think we actually exceeded the clock target that we had. So we're quite pleased with the results.

:D

Were you expecting him to say, "Oh no, we had to respin 10 times to achieve our target clock." ???

Of course he's going to say they exceeded it.

I also find it hilarious that Vijay paints this picture of everything being fine and dandy over there at AMD. Everything is on schedule, performance is better than anyone thought, he even takes a couple of stabs at Nvidia....

...Yet we still have no product

And I'll keep bashing them until they finally release a tangible product. They keep saying over and over again that it is ready, but it's still MIA.

I'm waiting for this card too, there's a reason why I am still running a X1900XTX on a 24" display.

How long are we supposed to wait?

Overall a huge :thumbsdown: for this interview. AMD is seriously in some fantasy world.

Vijay Sharma [Director of Desktop Discrete Product Marketing at AMD]: Sure. Our initial plan as you're probably aware was to do an NDA press media event this week just before Cebit at Amsterdam. And we realized that we had two derivative products of R600 coming. So we had a whole family of R600-products coming within 45, 60 days of each other. So we said rather than have the press come to Amsterdam before Cebit and then another month later do another event lets talk about the whole family at once and include desktop and mobile products as well. So we have a very strong story and we choose to hold on the R600 and have a combined event later in april.

"We have a very strong story"... yeah, whatever AMD. You're delaying your high-end part that is supposedly ready to go with no problems at all because you want to have one press conference instead of one now and one 2 months from now? Seriously, either they're the worst business people ever and are stupid enough to actually pull something like that or they think that we're stupid enough to believe them. Either way,:thumbsdown:.

the *only* thing "new" is that there is an AGP bridge chip for r600 and the Partners can use them if they sense 'demand'

in 'this case' ... theInq is right ... *nothing else* worth reporting

the rest is rehashed marketing ... confused and silly FUD

-where's the beef?-

me too. as muich as i love my 8800gts 320 i want to see want ati has to offer but that just the hardware lover in me. not the rationale thinking gamer. i can't wait. ati/amd is an awesome company. i can't wait to see what r600 can do especially with the 512 bit bus and 1 gb ram.

Meh- so they are finally releasing the GDDR3 version of this on May 14th. Oh boy 1600Mhz DDR3. Drivers for it are still crashing more apps. than not. 5-10 % faster than 8800GTX in dx10 apps.(rumor). They better have better spinsters than this dude when they finally release this thing.

the interviewer had no balls, whatsoever ... i'd have gone after the marketing FUDster

it would have been my "last" interview with AMD ... but so what?

:D

i think they should stop giving interviews till they have something to show

EDIT:

Oh, you mean besides waay late ...

underperforming, also ? :p

at least ATi was HONEST about the delay
:Q

not some bullcrap about 'having it' and it's *awesome* --but were waiting for *other* completely unrelated product to launch with it

AMD *looks* so stupid

Why would being another X1800XT be a bad thing? The X1800XT was faster then the G7800GTX, yes it was late but it was definitely not as bad as a card as most people portray it.

The other place to look for the beef is in the plethora of dx10 games. Not wanting to play games on a huge tv, I need a reason to upgrade.

this isn't about you ... *the* fanboy

it's much rather about AMD's stupidity in first scheduling a huge Launch for r600 ... CANCELLING it suddenly
-then making up stupid *excuses* for it's lateness
[uh-huh ... "holding back" for the mainstream launch]

AMD's x1950xtx being THIRD to the GTX and GTS is *dead last* in most persons perception ... and ...
their inability to deliver a competing product coupled with their lame excuses has cost them - in every way imaginable

that's all

i think some of you get a little TOO emotional over a thing such as a video card.
