"A good chunk of interesting information regarding AMD's upcoming (and much delayed) R600 series of cards has been released, with a roadmap update. It looks like we'll see releases very soon, with the first of them coming this month. The beefiest card of the R600 release lot, the X2900XTX, will be here on March 30th, according to the article. However, supply issues and a host of other things could easily set it back, so don't hold your breath. A stepped down version, the X2900XT, is slated for a release in mid-April.

As we've seen before, these GDDR4 and GDDR3 sporting cards won't be anywhere near ?compact?, with the X2900XTX being a massive 9.5? long (with some OEM units supposedly being 12.5? long). The last time we saw cards of that size was from 3DFX, just before they went out of business. Let's hope R600's release is a good omen for AMD, not a bad one. Other specs such as power consumption are listed as well, and it looks like for a CrossFire config with the XTX you are looking at 450W draw for the cards alone ? no lightweight, for sure. "

Some of the links yesterday also implied a March 30th (soft) launch for the XTX channel and OEM parts with the XT following 2-3 weeks later. Confirms the "strategic" launch strategy by AMD was BS, but it'll be nice to see what R600 is capable of.

Yeah, I'm definately excited!! Also, sorry about the repost. I just noticed a link to a similar article at the end of the R600 delayed thread. I did search but for obvious reasons this didnt show up. I've always been a fan of ATi products but I got tired of waiting and bought an 8800GtX a month ago. My 24incher needed some TLC that the X1900 couldn't give all the time. If this thing turns out to be the monster most of us hoped it would be, there may be a future FS/FT soon. ;) Not that I'm unhappy with my current card. I just want to give AMD some of my money. I think they could use a little. :D All we need is some leaked benchies

Ya I'm interested in some of R600s HD features also. Need to see how much of it is marchitecture first though. :) But same as you, I'm most interested in performance and compatibility first. Even though the latest 100-series Beta drivers from NV cleared up most of my outstanding issues with the 8800 series, I'm sure there's going to be areas where R600 and G80 distance themselves from each other, even if their overall performance is roughly the same. In the end it'll be nice to see some comparisons done that don't involve 15 different G80 variants scaling within 5% of each other based on clockspeed lol.

Well. if it is March 30. Maybe we'll see some benches then on how it compares to G80. Even though there may be nothing on store shelves for a few more weeks after.

I'm not buying one, but would still like to see benches.

Im in no hurry. But it will be nice to have another choice when I get home. Competition is good, no two ways about it. Im afraid the rest of my PC has slipped since I havent updated it since late last summer. Probably be bottlenecked with a R600, perhaps not at my res so much though.

Tech Preview March 30. I'll put $20 on it.

Furthermore, it wouldnt surprise me to see R600 running at 800mhz for the tech preview and then ship with a 700mhz clock.

CeBIT: AMD speaks about R600

Received by AMD, we believed there until the end. When we penetrated in a flanked room of a poster ?NDA? we were persuaded that it would be there. And well not. Many times announced R600 and very as many time deferred was not there, finally almost, as explained Vijay Sharma, Product to us Manager of R600 at AMD.

Hello Vijay. We thought of seeing R600, is it there?
Hello. Yes R600 is well here in CeBIT. It is presented in NDA (agreement of nondisclosure) at some of our partners. It is not visible for general public, nor for the press, but our trade partners have it already and can present it at their customers.

And for us will people of the press, when be you he visible?
He will be presented at the press at the end of April/during May at the time of an official presentation under NDA. The date and the exact place of this event are not defined yet, but that will not be in Amsterdam (note: AMD cancelled there is a few days the official presentation of R600 which was to be held in Amsterdam at the beginning of week).

And for the public?
The public will see with blow on of R600 everywhere in Computex which will take place in June since it will be launched during May.

One spoke about a problem of PCB with memory GDDR4. You confirm?
Well on that not. There is no concern, these rumours are nonfounded. R600 functions very well.

This don't CeBIT was the occasion to present it, why do it not?
We wish to develop a complete range around R600. Today, the range and all that goes around are not finalized. We will launch R600 at the same time as all the range of charts which use it.

Will AMD announced a revision with the fall of its sales for the current year, R600 be the product which will save AMD?
We hope for it and let us be persuaded of it. The processor for Barcelona waiter will be well launched this summer. The version general public Agena will be launched second half of 2007. All these innovations will show the capacities of AMD to be dissociated in this market. There is not only R600.

Compared to the solution of NVIDIA, which will give the R600 in terms of performances?
You will be surprised?

And the price?
I know it, but of course, I can nothing say to you.

Thank you Vijay

AMD received us and let us thank we them. We would have however liked to know some a little more. R600 is not there. There exists can be certainly, but we saw it, nobody besides, and the answers brought to our questions seem to be given in order to save time.

I pulled this from the simultaneous launch thread. The link the op posted is broken.

EDIT: It was translated through Google. The product manager for R600 is not illiterate. I hope.

lol wtf.....another blow on for R600....

They were supposed to show it off at the very least at CeBit and now this. Only their partners are getting working boards? Who knows when we'll see benches now, doesn't even seem AMD knows when they're supposed to launch.

Why cant they just say it'll be faster?

I fully expect it to be faster than G80. After being eight months late, I think everyone expects it to be faster than G80.

Saying we'll be "surprised" makes me think its going to be a hunk of crap.

I think I'll be "surpised" if it's 50% faster than the 8800GTX. Because if it isn't that much faster, I have a feeling the 8900GTX will be a month or two off, and if it's pushing 160 stream processors with increased clock speeds on all fronts will prove to be mightily formidable. I just wish AMD would get back on track with their roadmaps... I really want a quad core barcelona + ATi card when I come back from Korea in December :)

A real surprise might be if the rumor that started yesterday of R600 being a 65nm chip is true. Now that's a shocker!

That would explain the delays, but I doubt it.

I think the March 30th was the original date for its release. But with the editorial conference being cancelled (not sure why), i suspect that its been pushed back even further.
