R600 cards will require 270 Watts each?

I believe the 'top-end' design they're talking about is actually a dual-GPU board. I could see 270W from that.

I'm skeptical they would design a single-GPU card that requires more power than many people's entire PSU would be capable of putting out.

It's 270W for R600XTX OEM/SI but just 240W for R600XTX retail. Those Power levels are not for the R600XTX2 (Dual Chip).

The interesting thing is that you can run it on 225W (max) using 2 of the 2x3 pin connectors but without things like Overdrive.

Since the XTX2 is based on the R600XL (I believe) which is 180W you'd be looking at ~360W for it.

you know, i just find it funny that everyone is all about stating how much power these things require, yet nobody really knows how much it really is using at all...and if its under load or idle...why dont we just wait and see whats true instead of relying on rumors.

edit: im not an ati fanboy, im just waiting to see which is really worth it, nvidia or ati.

I wouldn't put too much stock in that article. Its coming from IGN, not a tech site and that news bit is just too full of nonsensical half-truths and venom.

Source on power usage which isn't unsubstantiated rumors from the Inquirer?

Agreed. IGN is the bearer of false news and crappy screenshots.
