R600 + Barcelona

I have been thinking that ATI said R600 was ready in December but we never got it. I am wondering if AMD is planning something bigger than the R600 launch and just not saying anything.

They're still getting Duke Forever stable enough to get through the benchmark suite. Something about Duke kept crashing the game whenever the player made him smoke too many cigars.

rofl, stupid underaged kids

Maybe they're waiting b/c they wanted to verify the results of the top secret Inquirer/Fudzilla test that showed Barcelona + R600 gives you extra fps in NVidia-approved games.

Yep- in fact they are going to offer a package deal- the HD 2900XT and the 2.5Ghz Vegena CPU for the low, low price of $399. (Or 3 easy payments of $99.99).

Actually from the card size comparison folks have been posting around for the past couple weeks, it's shorter than a GTS, and nowhere near as long as a GTX?

Grain of salt.

212mm vs 230mm for GTS and 270mm for GTX.

I think that availability of the Vegena might be an issue. Very few posters have actually seen it, and many thus consider it vaporware. 😉

That is supposed to be the shorter retail cooler (which we have yet to see), not the larger OEM verson in the other pics you linked to. IIRC, the OEM version in the fudzilla pics is more like 11-12" long. It appears that as far as PCB length goes, the 8800GTX is still the longest card, but the OEM version of R600 has a fan attached that makes the overall card length longer.

I believe the fan in those pics is not attached but simply sitting behind the heatsink so that the photographer could more easily get a picture of both.
