Nothing really new but it says in the last line "ready for Fall shipments". Its second hand information so take it with a grain of salt but maybe this means we'll see competition for the 512MB GTX.

People are dreaming if they think ATi is going to release the 580 a couple weeks after the 1800.

It will be late Spring/Summer.

Nah... rumors of them having hardware have been around for awhile... It will be out before the end of Winter.

Nothing wrong with speculating. Perhaps the 580 will be out soon as a very high end card, with an $800 price tag.

Err, what aboot the R560? That was supposed to supplant the R520 pretty quickly. Maybe that's what was referred to or rather even an RV580 (mid-range replacement)?

R560 is a refresh to the R530, possibly in the 8-1-3-2 configuration.

Take a look at the R530 (x1600), it can keep up with the 6600's with only 4 ROP's and 4 texture units (quite impressive actually). R530 is the lower end architecture of the R580 (which triples the ALU power of the R520, 16x3 to get 48 pipes).

The R580 will have to face the NV80. So they still may be in 2nd place all of next year.

I was under the impression that R600 is going to contend with G80. Any updates on that?

Which is reasonable considering winter doesn't strat until Dec 21st and end Marcgh 20th...so it could be 03/06 and make that true.....

I bet it will be more like Q2 06 at the earliest....

Those rumors were the collective Ati fanboys here praying loudly!!! They are tired of being second fiddle...

It would be an interesting strategy on ATIs part to send R580s to OEMs this fall, basically it would be admitting the the X1800XT was a mistake.

It would totally cannibalize X1800 sales and de-value them.

I suppose as there aren't many around yet they wouldn't offend too many, could be a "5800-cut your losses" type move I suppose.

More likely I think we'll see a spring launch of this part.

I'm gonna doubt the R580 is comming out this year at all.... If it were true shouldn't they have just scrapped the R520??? and not even release it? Why even invest in making boxes/marketing crap, etc?
