R350 on the right, RV350 on the left?

Jeez...Anand should be receiving one soon!

Edit: Looks like RV350 doesn't need an extra power cable. Guess that confirms .13mu core?

The think the R350 is the one on the right, and it appears to require a 4pin molex power connector.

Was just reading a similar thread over at Rage3D. Notice how the AGP connectors are different (two segments vs. three)? What do you all make of that?

Doesn't one key in the fingers means 3.3v?

The card on the left has a two segment connection to the AGP slot, while the one on the right has a more typical 3 segment layout. Does this imply that the different cards will use two different voltage configurations and bus speeds? John, the only cards I know of that have two segments are older AGP1.0 2x cards. Peace.

That's what I'm asking. Peeps over at Rage3D think it has something to do with AGP 4x vs. 8x standard or something.

Read this.

Edit: What I don't understand is why would the RV350 be 3.3V only, and not Universal AGP.
Edit 2: Actually, analyzing the position of shorter segment (closer to the front in 3.3V cards), this RV350 is not 3.3V (longer segment closer to the front)

Just a bit of speculation, but with the die shrink, the transistors can't handle higher voltages anymore. Perhaps it will only work at 4x an 8x, 1.5v and .8v respectively. Peace.

<drools>

I can't wait. This is my next card. I skipped the GeForce4 / 8500 / R300 series.. this card is for meh. It'll replace my $99 GF3 Ti200 that I got almost a year and a half ago now.

um... if that card on the left only has 1 notch how is it going to fit in newer motherboards? all newer boards require a second notch in order for the card to go in otherwise it physically wont connect.... so does that mean RV350 is only designed for really old systems or is that picture a fake or a mistake?

The 3.3v AGP slot had a short segment in front and a long segment behind it, while the 1.5v AGP slot, like this one, has the long segment in front and a short segment behind that. This card wouldn't even fit in older motherboards, and should probably only be run at 1.5v or lower. BTW, thanks Kuk. Peace.

One is green. I though reference ATi cards were pretty much always red?

ATi didn't start using red PCB until R300. They may continue to use red PCB for their high-end parts and green for lower-end. Dunno. Again, these are alpha/beta boards. There's also no telling how old the photo is.

I used to be a Nvidia person but now I am leaning toward a ATI chipset card for my next video upgrade.

Side-by-side comparison of R300 and R350 (820K GIF)

Do you all see the long, vertical thing just to the left of the heatsink? What do you all think that is? It looks like the R300 PCB had the wiring for it, but nothing was "plugged" in.

I recall using those for decoder cards.
