I saw my first GT-R on southbound 87 near downtown San Jose yesterday evening. While the specs on the car are great, I'm just not impressed with the way the thing looks. It's not graceful looking at all.

Yeah, I don't think the point is to be graceful there 🙂

The world has enough graceful speedy vehicles (Vette, current Viper, Astons, Maserati, Bentley GT, etc), there is a place for Godzilla posing with a bunch of crazy conflicting lines 😉 (as long as the performance is as crazy as the looks)

They are killing their intended market (enthusiasts) by wanting to Nazi control everything about the car. Can't so much as turn off traction control or change the tire pressure without being "authorized" to do so. Do cell phone and Hollywood DRM Nazis run Nissan now?

Enthusiasts like to tinker with things.

I mean come on are you buying the car or leasing it?

I think the issue also deals with the fact that the original Skyline GT-R (using Yen->USD from that time) was not an expensive car... it was around 30-40k, which you have to admit, isn't bad at all. It may not be as "good" as it is now, but even when it debuted, it was legendary for being such a surprisingly good contender.

So, in short... I think the car is too good and such makes it cost too much. Also the fact that as long as Nissan sells the car for a profit (which I assume they do), they may just not be able to make enough of them. Aren't the engines hand assembled?

nissan already has models based on the same platform. sure, this is significantly modified, but my mom wouldn't tell the difference between a gt-r, a 350z or my g35. the coupe chassis (en francais!) are also very similar to the sedans.

Heck, I assume the reason they dropped the "Skyline" name is to separate the car from its original "sedan" heritage. You could buy a normal RWD Skyline sedan meant for the family or go higher and buy a GT-R... of course we never got that option at all 😛. We only got the Silvia 🙁.
