So long stable and fair processor. You performed your operations without error. You were a good processor. I shall never forget you!

So long and R.I.P.,

Pentium III 866 MHz

Cause of Death: Heatsink/fan assembly dropped on chip during cleaning.

Maybe not 3.06 GHz, but I was thinking 2.4b on an Abit IT7 MAX2 v2 with 1GB PC3200 and a new power supply. Then switch the single 866 MHz in my dual pc to my web server (667 MHz). Then buy 2x 1.4 GHz Tualatin for the dual pc.

See the cash thing is a problem too. I have a big vacation coming up in the next month so I'll have to wait until after that before doing any replacing. Alas, I wasn't ready to go upgrading again, I just finished that with my other rig!

Yeah it's a first for me too, first chip I've ever damaged while still in the computer! Oh well, it's only a processor.

I had a 566Mhz Coppermine Celeron oc'ed to 876Mhz (103x8.5) die last year because I accidentaly pulled out the Copper Orb wire from the motherboard installing my new RADEON 7500. I also lost my ABIT-BH6 mobo. Just this year I lost a 1.4GHz Tualatin Celeron trying to do the vid mod (I broke 4 pins) but, thankfully, Intel replaced it for me.:(

It's possible, I had been thinking about buying a new computer the previous couple of days before the "accident" occurred!

OUCH!!!!! :eek:

2.4b = 3.06+ = you just saved $500 ;)

Yeah it looks like I'll be getting something completely new now. I was hoping I could get some of those adapters for Tualatins and use them in my dual PC. Unfortunately the adapters don't work in SMP mode. Guess I'll go get a new motherboard, proc, and some memory and then sell my old dual motherboard, processor, and memory.

Haha, yeah right. I'm putting off any upgrades until after my vacation in a couple of weeks. I'll be in the poor house after that so I'll refocus my spending habits.

Turns out that I can't put dual Tualatin's in my duallie because the PowerLeap (or similar) adapters don't support SMP. Looks like I'll be replacing the duallie instead of giving it an upgrade after all!
