ESPN.com and Foxsports.com (along with many others) are reporting that Hampton has signed with the Colorado Rockies for eight years at upwards of $115 million.
He'll just die out there.
Do you realize how high his ERA is gonna shoot up at Coors Field...one of the best hitters parks? Colorado oughtta be a pitcher's retirement home.
Why he didn't choose St. Louis (at a reported 7 year, $105 million contract) is beyond me. First off, it's less money, but Number 1, he is practically guaranteed of another championship series on a CLASS ACT team. Number 2, one of his closest friends, Darryl Kile, is the top starter. Number 3, the fans will appreciate him more than any other ballclub.
During the NLCS, I considered Hampton a good pitcher on a bad team. I really, really wanted to see him sign with the Cards, so I'm hoping that there's that slight chance...
