R.I.P. Joe Ades

I remember seeing him hawk his wares on the streets. I even bought a couple of peelers off him once. He was a great salesman, and could probably sell dirty sox. Joe Ades was a real character and will be missed.

I've seen him a few times around Union Square. I never took the opportunity to stop and see what he was selling. I just assumed it was carrots. Based on the articles, I missed the chance to watch a great salesman. 🙂

oh wow, i always walked past him during lunchtime at work. he always had a crowd of people. that guy was great.

Wow. I'm surprised he was so famous. And so wealthy. I walked by him several times on Union Square as well. I've stopped to watch his demonstration, but never purchased a peeler. To be honest, I thought he was a little crazy. Who sits in the middle of the street in Manhattan in a full suit to sell potato peelers?

Damn, over the years several of my NYC friends mentioned him to me, but the one time I made it a point to go by Union Square, he wasn't there.

Bit by bit, our lives get duller and more uniform. 🙁
