what brand was it?

old WD from 97

Man that bad boy chugged along :( memories :(

interesting, the i had a 4gb WD that lasted forever too.

but i had a bunch of IBM 75gxp (i think that was the model) star something that died.

Yeah, this is the first WD I've ever had die on me  that brand

wasn't WD not a well-liked brand back then? like people thought they were unreliable? hmm are they even still around...

WD was always considered good way back. Maxtor was a brand to avoid, if you go back farther Connor was the avoid at all costs brand. I had a few Connor's die on me. I've never had good luck with Maxtors either. Quantum's were good to me, but they're long gone as a company. But, I never did like the name of the drives a "Quantum Fireball" I know it's just a name but I don't want my HD being called a fireball it just sounds bad :)

In the past 3 years I've had 2 WD & 2 Seagates die on me. So I have no preference.

I did own a Deathstar which I think oddly enough worked until I replaced it with a bigger drive.
