R.I.P. Grandma

My grandma passed away today, she was 72.



I want to tell you a little about this lady. Times were tough back in the day. With my Grandpa who passed away a little over a year ago they raised 5 boys and 1 girl. Struggling to make ends meet my Grandpa logged with my Grandma by his side. That was hard work for sure.

In 1979 they were both hit head on by a drunk driver. My Grandpa was pretty banged up but my Grandma lost her eye sight. The hood of the car went through the windshield and hit her in the face. I was in kindergarten at the time, I remember my mom coming in and telling me that they were in a bad accident.

This did not keep her down, she learned to adapt to her blindness. She spent the rest of her life speaking at schools and victims impact panels about the dangers of drinking and driving. I have faith that she must have touched at least one persons life, maybe saving a life.

I love you Grandma, rest in peace..:'(

Wow. She must have had some kinda heart/drive/tenacity to turn that kind of tragedy into even a remotely positive thing. Surely she did touch some lives with her story. People like her are extremely important to teach these lessons, and unfortunately they're dying at a rapid rate, because people like her tend to be older folks. Our generation just doesnt have the guts to do what she did.

If that happened to me, its hard to say how I would react, but I highly doubt I would be able to keep away from becoming a drug/alcohol addict at that point.

She did something beneficial in this world before she died, and thats something not all of us will do. Sorry to hear about her passing.

I'm sorry for your loss OP. I've lost all of my grand parents AND all of my parents. I know the sting of pain that you must feel.

Seaserpent shared a story of bravery and perseverance from a woman who was close to him - his grandmother. She turned a tragedy into something positive that benefited others. He used the opportunity of her passing to share her story with us.

If you cant empathize with his loss and admire her strength, perhaps you should keep negative thoughts to yourself. Sharing your anger is odd and uncalled for.

I hope your mom is in better place. I still have both my parents but I know one day I wont. I hope we will all be together again in heaven.
