R/C planes, ppl who own em /have used em please cehck in

For some reason all the R/C plane guys are old guys. I would have gotten more into them if there were more young people to do it with.

That said, I've built a couple, but was never as good at flying them as I was at building and crashing them.

Get a simple plane to start with, a trainer, not an aerobatic plane.

Stick with an ARF almost ready to fly. They are cheap and easy to repair cause you will crash.
This will be your best option to start off with. Check Tower Hobbies this plane is simalar to what I started with it can take some good hard crashes and is easily repaired. A cox easy bee is another good starter although i'm not sure if they are still made. You may want to check if there are any local flying clubs around aswell. Try and meet up with these people and ask alot of questions they will in most cases be happy to help. I'm not ranting on hobby shops but alot of the time they just want the sell and will tell you whatever to get that sell.

EDIT.

This type of kit <ARF> requires you to purchase a engine and radio kit seperately which is nice as they can be moved to a more advanced plane should you decide to stick with it.

I thought about getting into this and wil once I get out of school.

My brother was into rc car racing and told me to watch out for the cheapo kits. He said that they come with cheap transmitters and recievers and the plane will cease to fly once it gets out of range.

www.toyeast.com has some simple electric ones you can start out on that are relatively cheap. Go to their RC section.

Did it when I was in High School. build during the winter and fly/crash afterward. Nothing prebuilt. First two were kits. Third was a modified version from the original kit blueprints. Larger wing and tail, hard points on the wings for ordanance (water bombs). Added ski and pontoons to it later on. Enjoyed building the units for the ability to see something grow from my own hands.

I'd advise you jump in to the deep end and get an RC jet. They're miniature versions of existing jet planes and it's interesting to see a 4-5 foot long RC jet hit 200+ mph. Saw them on TV. Freaking SWEET.

I'm thinking about getting a RC helicopter myself... has anybody ever heard of or ordered from TrendTimes before?
I was looking at this but it almost seems like it's in that "too good to be true" category.

I also had a Tower Hobbies 40 ARF Trainer. One of my friend's had 15+ planes, so he got me into it. I flew it about five times with his trainer cable (to take control when I was gonna crash). About the sixth time, I went solo and nose dove it into a huge mud puddle in a field next to my house. The entire plane was ruined The engine was bent and never ran again. I salvaged 2 servos and the receiver, but everything else was fried.

Without practice, the jet will be "gone in 60 seconds".

First thing is to practice taxing along the ground, the learn touch and go.

A small engine is bad enough, the high powered units will be a throwaway of your $$ until you have experience to handle them.

That's not a fly-by-night deal. I don't know about that vendor but that is the right price for those kinds of kits. A heli is a lot harder to fly then a plane, however.

They've been around since I was a small child. I always remember how cool it would be to play with one in the pool at the Y (I must have been younger then 10).

What's the point of that? You could just hook VR glasses up to your computer.
