I have a chance to get a qx 9650 from a friend for 350.00.I figure i'd get around 200.00 for the qx6700 on ebay so i'd have 150.00 in it do you guys thinks it worth it or just wait till next year around this time and build a new platform.I just fold and do some gaming on the computer not as much as i used to .I guess the qx 6700 is still fast just wondering how much faster the qx9650 is

I assume you OC...if so, you'll do a hell of a lot better with a QX9650.

As long as you can keep temps in check, you'll be doing 4.0 - 4.2 GHz with a QX9650 on good air.

You'll be getting nowhere close with a QX6700, especially as those can still be B3s.
You'll need better than air to hit anywhere close to a stable 4 GHz w/o a miracle on a QX6700...i'd expect a lot lower likely.

I'd do it as long as your board can run 45nm quads and you plan to stick with your platform a while longer. That price is almost as cheap as a Q9550.
