"is it worth the $1,500?"

Unless you are in need of HEAVY multitasking/multithreading performance, I'd say - hell no!

Not in my opinion. Wait until the day after Xmas, and buy it for $1,200 or less, if you really want one. At least, that's what I'd do, if I were in the market for one.

WHAT? $1500 for a processor? I thought those things were going to be $1000 at most. No way is that worth it unless you plan to utilize all those cores for some reason. I'd wait until AMD brings out their quad core processors, maybe that'll drive quad core prices down. If you need a new chip now then get a Core 2 Duo.

Since most apps are not going to use 4 cores or use them efficiently...you could better off buying 2 computers of equal speed....About the only way you will get 2x performance since quads will be a big no show in most things you do....

i am commenting onthe 1500 price....1100 is still too high considering the 6700 can be had in the low 500's....No way this quad cores should be anything more then 2x the cost of the C2D version let alone 1.7-1.8x since apps wont see anywhere near double the performance...

Since an E6700 is about 525 shipped I wouldn't pay more then 930 for the QX6700....Actually I wouldn't even pay that cause it goes above my limit I will ever pay for cpus...

E6600's are about low 300's....I would pay 530 for a Q6600 if they had it at that price....

Personally the E6700 is already at a bad price point considering it is 200 dollars for 266mhz more then the E6600....The E6600 is only 100 more dollars then the e6400 for 266mhz more and 2mb more of l2 cache (seen as being almost 3-5% in benches)...iT IS ONLY 130 more then the E6300 for 533mhz more and 2mb more of L2 cache....

the E6400 is the best price point IMO.....If there was a quad core of it for 350-400 I would be all over it!!!

I would say abso-fvcking-lutely not.

Unless you're the 0.1% of the population who is spending all their waking hours rendering or encoding video.

That's me then... Got to get one now if I can find one.
