Some people here do not get it. Let me help you get it.

If the Japanese kidnapped U.S forces during WWII and burned the Bible in their faces I doubt many people in the U.S would be like "whatever". Especially those Christian fanatics in the South who love Benny Hinn. Those same Benny Hinn low-class people are the same as those Osama people protesting on the streets. What do they have in common?. Lack of education.

If Japanese forces were making our captured soldiers dance around naked and poop all over themselves I doubt we would be like "whatever".

During the period we already hated the Japanese. They attacked our country.

We attacked Iraq when other nations were a bigger threat. It seems more like a war against Islam to those in the Muslim world when it was really Bush being war hungry and wanting revenge for 9/11. He picked the easiest target and got away with it.

WMD? Iran was a bigger threat than Iraq. Iran has KNOWN WMD. Iraq was just sitting there with no military to do anything. What about North Korea?
Freedom for the Iraqi people? What about freedom for the people in Sudan?

People who support the war don't care who we attacked. Saddam wasn't a threat but even the slightest chance that he was makes us feel good about this war. Those people don't really care about that part of the world and wouldn't lose any sleep if that entire area was nuked. Why? We are selfish. The human race is selfish. Why care about the rest of the world when we have a great life right here? We want to protect this life and we don't care if we ruin other people's lives to keep this life.

Everything would have been fine if certain unedcated people in the marines didn't go and do stupid stuff. Then again I guess they belong to that Benny Hinn circle of people since he has a million+ followers.

I really don't care about this topic overall, but your attempt to draw a parallel is pretty flawed. It's not the 1940s, and even then I don't believe that Americans would riot and kill each other because the Bible was placed in a toilet. Riot because the Sox won/didn't win, sure. But that's DIFFERENT. :p

It's pretty amusing to me that people who routinely talk about taking the West down (by force of holy wrath and whatnot) are so sensitive when members of their self-declared enemy mistreat an inanimate object. Oh noes. Not the book!!! Hell, let them riot.

Iraq had no military? :Q That's...interesting. Personally I think it's wonderful that a confluence of circumstances occurred that allowed
A) a tyrant to be deposed,
B) a Middle Eastern country to begin a transition to democracy, possibly spurring similar change in the region,
C) a central focus to terrorist efforts, allowing them to be fought by the regular army.

I'd love it if the world went to each of the problem spots of the world - what's holding them back, again? Okay, so most of the world declined a tour in Iraq. What's tying their hands from helping out in Sudan? They won't do squat unless it's out of personal interests, plain and simple, just like you said. I fail to see how joining the world in doing nothing is a better move than going to Iraq.

Well, for the basic reason that it's a whole lot harder to get along with people if you piss all over their culture. Whether we should feel obligated to be sensitive or not is something we have to leave up to our own moral compass, but for rational reasons, it's a good idea.

Do you feel angry when people in other countries burn our flag? I know I do, and I don't think there is anything wrong with that. We have to realize that other people will react the same way.

Why should Americans be expected to be sensitive to other peoples culture?

Same reason children (Middle-Easterners) expect teachers (Americans) to be mature/understanding.

But for what it's worth, it's more than an inanimate object. Much more.

How would you feel if someone desecrated something you hold dear? A family heirloom, a souvenir from a loving friend, a gift from someone who cares about you ... all symbols of love and affection.

The Qur'an is much more than that. One in five people in this world consider it to be the literal word of God! Surely that means something?

Because when you're imposing your values on others and trying to portray them as superior, you kinda have to lead by example.

To one out of five people in the world, it surely does. Do you think that Islam should be respected because you want it to be or because it deserves to be?

I (we) need to be what I (we) am (are), and quit worrying about what they think.:|

I guess if you are not comfortable in your own skin, I could understand your need to conform to other people wishes.

I don't believe that most people in the USA have that need.

No it's an inanimate object. Same as the American flag. Same as a Bible. Some guys love Fords but they don't cry when a monster truck runs one over.

I got another million bux that says you talk smack about America cuz it tries to push its Western ideas on the rest of the world.. - You are exactly the problem w/ the Left and what passes for liberal ideology these days. - The Left and neoLibs have morphed into everything they always tried not to be.. oooh the irony :disgust:

No one ever considers that a religion might be a little bit bigger than a symbol. Especially the people who say they believe in it.

-Amp

p.s. You're calling me insensitive towards a culture and then go and say oh look at Amp he's just some democrat/liberal fvck his beliefs. THE IRONY.

p.p.s. I voted Republican.

So let me get this straight. You think Japanese forces during WWII didn't so much as humiliate captured soldiers?

I guess death by torture is preferable to having a possession sat down next to a toilet.

I guess the numerous accounts of inmates at guantanamo plugging toilets with pages from the Quran shows their high exaltation of the word of god.

As far as attacking the weakest/easiest target. That is the whole point of war.

Does this mean I condone the behavior of some of our troops? No.

There doesn't need to be protest because people are beheading people. It's not the Iraqi troops doing it. It's a bunch of terrorist.

Who are they going to protest against? Islam? Islam doesn't say to behead anyone. Insurgents? Well U.S troops are beating their asses so.. nothing really a protest is going to solve.

People can believe another religion is BS. Nobody is God to say which religion is right or wrong. If people want to think like that then go ahead. Then don't ask "why do they hate us so much?". They hate "US" because people like "US" call their religion BS.

---
Look at the Vietnam War. What happened when the U.S troops were getting their asses kicked and there were prision camps? People went on the streets.

The only reason this isn't happening now is because we control Iraq. We own Iraq. Iraq is our little bitch. If we were losing this war and thousands of U.S troops were in Iraqi custody and there were reports of them being raped and the Bible being burnt, believe me you would see many people on the streets.

1) Would protest that we get out of Iraq
2) Would protest that we burn the Quran for them burning the Bible.
3) Would say nuke them to hell
4) Would be the PETA lovers who just happen to get involved in war protest and go all out crazy with spray paint to prove a point. "WAR IS EVIL"

You're comparing things that are completely different. People are rioting because some object they may or may not find holy was damaged. Not because of some injustice.

Besides people in Iraq don't hate us. They are basically American's who live in a desert. In ten years they will be Japan'2, quote me on that.

The people who hate us are the religous Koran beaters who couldn't see common sense through the towel on their head.
