Could we get something that would maybe automatically trim down a quote tree to a show/hide link once it passed a certain character/quote level? For example, say there's a couple lengthy posts in a chain of five, maybe the top three would be listed as "(Click here to show all quotes)"

I came here to make a similar suggestion. Perhaps it could become forum policy to get users to edit down the quotes before they post. Being lazy about it could warrant a note from the mods or something.

IPB has code in their forum software that only quotes the post you hit the quote button for and not anything quoted by that poster.

The quote hiding tree is another solution.

It seems there are many ways to deal with this.

There never need to be more than 2 or 3 nested quotes. Anyone needing more context should read the whole thread. Unfortunately some people just hit Quote, bash in their text and submit it

It's not even about context. The sixth post in a nested quote tree has been posted in the thread at least 6 times already and there's no need to read it again.
