I am quite surprised. Fuji CDRs given a rating of BAD ? does this make sense ?

Consistently the opinion of techies here on this board is that Fujifilm CDRs are among the best available CDRs (up there with Kodak and Mitsumi).

Yet at this site:

http://www.cdmediaworld.com/hardware/cdrom/cd_quality.shtml

url

Which one would assume would be an authoritative site,
They are listed as not just medium, but outright BAD. And Imation, among others, are listed as GOOD.

Does this ring true to you guys ?

There is the obvious factor of the Taiwan versus the Taiyo Yuden (Japan) made Fuji CDRs, but one would think that some distinction would be made on this presumably authoritative site (CDMEDIAWOLRD.COM)

konichiwa,

All the FUJIFILM disks I have are "made in Japan" and that supposedly guarantees that they are TY.

But, one would think there must be more to it than meets the eye. At the site I have linked to, there are all kinds of authoritative test references and so on.

<< FujiFilm Ritek Bad Problems writing the "aged" CD-R's >>

They do mention Ritek ... maybe they just got their hands on a batch of Ritek FujiFilms. And they do exist, I have some that are made in Taiwan (Ritek)

I do hope that is the case. (that they tested Riteks)

But it does seem odd that a site devoted to CD stuff would be that far off - since I have actually not been able to find Taiwan made Fujis when I have looked.

I would like to hear from any other folks who have intimate CDR knowlege - or be provided with links that might say more about this

This actually interests me and concerns me also. Any other viewpoints among us ?

Just bought some Fuji's from amazon.com, curious to check out the manufacturer of the CD-Rs when I go to work tomorrow. Someone had said Fuji's are very high quality. I guess as long as they work, then really I don't have a problem.

They mention Taiyo Yuden as quality cdr factory, as long as your Fujis are identified as TYs you shouldn't have a problem.

I'm kinda surprised they go through a good testing procedure (aging chamber, multiple samples etc.), but fail to list the ATIP for the samples they tested. Bit sad really, since they list it for the many CD-Rs in their database...

Personally, I dont like that site, its got a lot of old info on old cdrs, a lot of which is out of date.

You could mix up new versions of cdrs with old ones, prob crappy manufacturers like ritek etc... Unreliable. Buy some yourself and look at the manufacturer, then use the disks, if they work use em, otherwise don't.

Ritek FujiFilms????

That's really strange, since when FujiFilm gave Ritek liscence to manufacture their media?

I've noticed the Fuji CD-Rs I have (MIJ) will not burn above 16x, even the ones that said they were 24x compatible. My Imations/Hypermedia always burn at 24x, although the Fuji's seem to be recognized better.

Those reviews at cdmediaworld are several years old. Alot of the brand names there are now made by different manufacturers... Imations used to be made by TY, but are now CMC Magnetics... and the Fujis used to be made by Ritek are now made by TY.... They should have a disclaimer there...

I made a long winded comment about this in this thread here on the second page.
