Quite possibly the best 24inch flat panel LCD to date. The BenQ FP241W.

This monitor has everything, and scores high in the reviews i have read. The only thing this monitor does not support, is 1:1 pixel mapping. From what I have read, over at the H, this will end up stretching the HD 1080 lines into the native span of 1200 (aka its native res of 1920x1200). So this might be an issue for users that strive for perfection when viewing HD content. However, this has not deterred me.

Possibly the successor, the BenQ FP241W ?Z? will support this missing feature of 1:1 pixel mapping. Which you can view by clicking FP241WZ under the 24inch section in the left hand pane, in the link provided on BenQ's website.

I was very nearly going to purchase as a self xmas present, a Dell 2407. But due to all the known issues I had held off. Although some of the issues are said to be fixed in rev A03, I am still not interested. Therefore as soon as this monitor is available here in the UK, I will purchase. Another thing that catches my eye is the aggressive price point, especially in comparison to the Dell 2407.

very nice. I was kinda wanting a 24" widescreen, but I could never quite pull the trigger on the 2407 either. This may be the answer. I'm not too sure the 1:1 mapping would be a big deal for me as I watch no TV on my PC. I just want something nice and big for windows, surfing and gaming.

Yeah, i don't think the 1:1 pixel mapping will be that much of an issue in all honesty. Not unless you look for it (the slightly stretched screen that is). I will look to eventually hook up a PS3 in the future via the HDMI interface.

BenQ might in fact release a firmware update, so you could possibly choose to run a 1:1 pixel map via the OSD.

I want a 30ish" LCD for the bed room so much, HDMI would work with my HD cable box also.

Wish I had the money.

I personally can't fault it. 🙂

I'll be upgrading from a 19inch 6bit panel. So i look forward to the copious amounts of pixel real estate, along with true 16.7 million colours. No more dithering algorithms to compensate for my 8ms 6bit panel.

Also the design is gorgeous, especially in black. Black will be the colour i look to get, so to go well with the rest of my peripherals and case.

No 1:1 is huge in my mind, I would never buy it.

- Watching any 1080 HD content will appear ugly due to the stretching, it will ruin the high quality of the content

- Any type of game where you want to play at a resolution beside 1920x1200 will have to be stretched rather than having bars on the side (e.g. 4:3)

For the cash I'd rather get a 2407 for the 1:1 pixel mapping, although the Benq does appear nice.

If you use it strictly for desktop and can also play any game in 1920x1200 then it's awesome.

Have all the known issues been fixed with the rev03 then?

SOLD!

I'm buying one now and selling my Dell 2407FPW for it 😀

problem is, on near enough every UK site it's listed, it's listed as having 16ms response and not 6ms. Anyone know why?

http://www.dabs.com/productview.aspx?Qu...hMode=All&NavigationKey=0&v=2#infoarea

There are various different ways these manufacturers calculate response time. The most advertised response time is the ?grey to grey? response time, this is because it is the lowest value.

This monitor has the following response times.

- 6ms Grey to Grey Response Time
- 16ms On-Off-On Response Time

So it depends on the reseller what spec they want to advertise. You'll notice that they just label it as response time, instead of on-off-on response time.

This panel has the same response time rating as the 2407, both the grey to grey, and on-off-on response times. However the hardware that drives the two monitors are different, and this is where the BenQ monitor excels in quality and performance.

For example check the specs on the OcUK website (scroll down 7 monitors), they've listed it as a 6ms response time.

I did more research on the monitor.

And decided it was not for me.
It lacks 1:1 pixel mapping which means 1080p outputs are stretched to fit the screens resolutions, not mapped to match pixels.
I'd hate to have a 16:9 1080p PS3 signal stretched to 16:10.

So for me, this is a miss.

I'm sticking to my dell 2407FPW which does have pixel mapping at all resolutions except at 1600 x 1200.

Yeah, thats the thing which has got me thinking now, because i plan to run a PS3 on it, and i want the best picture. Hmm, well i'll have to wait and see i guess.

Whats your 2407 like for gaming etc, do you have rev03?

EDIT: Also I was totally confused, as to why BenQ would have a HDMI 1080p interface and tout it, when the monitor is just going to stretch the picture to fit 1200 pixels anyway. Weird. Maybe they can fix this with a firmware revision, who knows.

For PC gaming it's pro.
I play in a clan, and different tourneys for CSS so I take my gaming pretty seriously.
And ghosting has never really bothered me on the 2407FPW.

I have revision A02. It does have slight banding, but I am able to exchange it for the A03 whenever I want. I only have'nt because of laziness. But mine came with a 3 year warranty.

I havent used a 360 on it, but mine arrives in a few days time, along with a VGA cable etc. So I'll post full pics and impressions soon!

Cool. I?ll look forward to the post. Ohhh, if I only I knew you wanted a 360 vga cable, i recently sold my xbox 360 and now have the VGA cable for it just lying around doing nothing. You could have purchased mine, lol. 😀

Oh well 😛

I did purchase a nice gold plated swanky one though.
As well as a pro glass fibre optics opticle cable to connect my Logitech Z5500 to my 360 😀
