Forget the real fact that adjusted for inflation, gas is not much more expensive than it has been in a long time. Consider this:

1 gallon = 3.7854118 liters

In the Netherlands, 1 liter of fuel costs EURO 2.25. So 1 gallon costs EURO 8,517177.

1 EURO = $ 1.2870 at the moment

So 1 gallon of fuel costs in the Netherlands $10.96

And you are complaining???

In Europe, bus drivers get to sleep with american teenagers. So things aren't even.

I'm pissed about the price of gas in the US. Is this the thread to come to if I want to complain about it?

I think Europe has much better public transportation than the US. You really don't need a car there with cheap airlines like ryanair and easyjet, plus the trains, buses, etc. so the gas prices aren't nearly as much of an issue as they are in the US.

Noone would own a Hummer in Europe.....maybe Jeremy Clarkson would

Anyhow, Europeans make about the same as Americans by working less hrs. I think on avg. they work about 12-20 hrs less for the same amount of money.

I used to live in Europe for a short time, and you cannot compare their gas prices with ours.

The cities in Europe are much more condensed than American cities. The majority of people live in flats that are bunched together. I can walk the width of the entire city of Sevilla which has almost 2 million people in a little over 1 hour. American cities are so spread out the commute is much much longer. I bet the average commute to work in European cities is around 1 or 2 miles.

Two American cities that are similar to the way european cities are set up are not suprisingly, two cities that are limited in size because of their location, Manhattan and San Francisco.

Public transportation there is much more readily accesible and superior to ours. Busses cost 1 euro, subways cost 1 euro. I can go from the outskirts of Madrid, which is a huge city, to downtown in like 15 minutes for 1 euro.

The majority of people drive small economical cars and in some cities like Sevilla where it barely rains, like 30% of the people drive scooters. Its more dangerous to drive small vehicles here because of the the millions of gigantic trucks and sport utility vehicles on the road in America.
