Quieting my IPCop Server, with pics

I have an old P3-733 which I use as an IPCop server (mainly because I want a powerful router which won't slow down under heavy BitTorrent traffic, and not so much for the firewall) but the problem is that it's way too loud. So I decided to quiet it down.

The components which emit noise in the system are 1) the cpu fan 2) the PS fan and 3) the hard drive. So I started with the CPU fan, it was simple, I hooked up a fanmate 2 and I was done.

Then I replaced the PS fan a few days ago with an old yate loon that I had hanging around but it was still too loud (I think something happened to it, cause it used to be real quiet) so today I decided to put in a different fan and hook up a fan mate. While installing it I decided to turn the fan around and have it blow over the PS components intead of just sucking air out (if this is not a good idea for some reason, then let me know, btw, I doubt if the system uses more than 75 watts so the PS (300w) probably doesn't even need active cooling...).

The first 2 parts were a success but now the HD (an old 15GB WD) is driving me crazy (even at idle) so I need an idea to shut it up... It's screwed into a 3.5"-5.25" bay converter and sitting on a shelf (see pics). If anybody knows if it's possible to install IPCop on a flash drive and get rid of the HD completely, please tell me how!!!

Pics:
The system
Another angle
The processor
The HD (that's an A-XP stock cooler that I had hanging around, cause the HD seemed to get a little too warm, the fan is not connected but the HD is noticeably cooler)
The PS with the new fan
The system with 2 fanmates
The big picture

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA your IPCop OWNS. such simplicity, and yet does its job.

Ummm as for silencing it. You can replace the PSU with a Antec NEO 450+. Im sure a cheap one will do just fine and there on the lvl of quietness as a seasonic. However its about 2/3rds the price. There not very great, but looking at your system, i dont think you'll require a very nice PSU.

Also, you can try to put your fans on fan controlers. This would allow you to turn up the fans on high load. and crank them on low when its doing simple tasks. Or you can adjust them to be in the middle somewhere so you can leave it 24/7 just find a nice = point.

Lastly, you can line your cabnet with this:

What else works good is dynomat if you can find it cheap on ebay. But if you line your cabnet walls with this stuff and drop in the silent PSU along with fan controlers on your hardware with Yates-looms at jab-tech.com for 3.50 . Im sure your rig will be as quiet as my NAS which is on water.

Cooling capacity is a completely different story tho 😛

My cpu and PSU fans are on controllers and are completely silent. as for the HD I think that I am going to get this IDE to CF adapter and a 1GB CF card cause apparently cf cards are ATA compatible and the computer will just see an IDE HD, but it will be perfectly silent...😀

or you can get laptop drives, and use a IDE converter. 😀 That away having more then 4gb of space wont break your wallet.

too late, I already ordered the ide to cf converter and a 1gb card, now I just want to get a passively cooled CPU (stupid me, I had an old celeron that was passively cooled which would have worked perfectly with my ipcop system, but I threw it out a few years ago) for cheap on ebay (or a passive heatsink for slot 1, although I haven't seen any for sale w/o a cpu attached) and a picoPSU. If I get that stuff then maybe I'll build a nice wooden box which will have the comp the switch and the modem in it.

Finally got the CF card today!!! (I got the ide converter a week or so ago).
Barely any noise now, and when the passive heatsink for the CPU comes, there won't be any noise at all...
System (notice the CF card on the right)
