Quieting down PSU

I want to quiet down my Enermax PSU. It has 2 fans and one of the fans' speed is controlled automatically. I was thinking of disconnecting one of the fans and possibly slow down the other fan using a resistor. Is this a feasible idea? I don't want to get a Papst fan because locally, one of those fans are half the cost of my PSU. Getting a new PSU isn't an option. If I can't quiet it down, then I guess I'll leave it. But I would like to quiet it down.

It's a 350W PSU powering a 1.2GHz Thunderbird, 3HDDs, 2 CD-Drives.

are you sure it's that loud? i also have a 350w enermax and i can't hear it even when i turn all the other fans in my computer off.

if you wanted to disconnect a fan, i suppose you could disconnect the intake fan on the psu and just leave the exhaust but i wouldn't recommend that.

If your case temps are reasonably low then you could probably run it on one fan. Personally I wouldnt do it though. If I were you, I would try to find out the power of your fans in their by checking reviews to see if they say or just opening up the PSU and looking at them and searching for them online. After that, see if you can find a quieter similarly flowing fan or something slower and quieter to replace it. Throwing in something like a Panaflo 80mm L1A and a 92mm L1A at 7V would be pretty quiet.

If it's a PSU designed to be silent, and it doesn't sound it, then it probably isn't the fans causing the racket. (at least not directly.) It's probably the PSU vibrating up against the metal of the case causing it. Try tightening screws or putting some isulation between the metal before you alter your PSU, because that could have some bad effects that might not need to be risked!

Listen to the Pelikan- moving the thermistor can make a world of difference, all by itself. Do that before anything else.

I'm not saying my PSU is louder than it should be, but I just want it quiet. Ever since I got my Zalman flower CPU HSF I've been working on making my computer as quiet as possible.

Pelikan, thanks for the link to the article. It's perfect as that is my PSU! :D

I'll give that mod a try and see how that goes.
