quieting an hd

Hello

I have an IBM 22GXP 22GB drive (it's 7200RPM) and I'm noticing the noise from it now that my cpu hsf is quiet. Any ideas of how to make it quieter WITHOUT BUYING A $30 SILENTDRIVE ENCLOSURE. I'm already ordering some Sound Deadening Material.

Thanks.

Simple.. take off the fan and the spend the thirty dollars on an extended warranty if you can get one.. the hard drive is just fine without the fan.. if not then you have a warranty on it.. you can build a quieter cooler yourself though buy replacing the fans in it with lower db fans or reduce their voltage..

Cut 4 small pieces of foam, carpet, or something similar. Take the hd out of the bay, and lay it on the bottom of the case on top of the 4 pieces of xxx. Works great, and there shouldn't be any heat problems. Just make sure you secure the hd if you move your case around.

The difference in seek noise is night and day.

Oh yeah...make sure when you lay the drive down that the circuit board side is face UP.
