it seems that the top choices for quiet power supplies are the enermax whisper supplies and ones from quietpc.com

I read some posts here that the enermax wasn't really that quiet..?

has anybody tried both? which is better? is there a better other alternative ?
i don't want to open up my power supply to replace the fan

I've been asking after Enermax Whispers lately, and everyone seems to think they are quite quiet.

The EG351P-VE and EG451P-VE (330 and 430 watt) everyone tells me they are very quiet.

I don't have one, but I'm searching after a fairly quiet PSU myself.

I have the Enermax EG451P-VE and the word "whisper" should not be associated with this thing. It is definitely not what I would consider quiet.

I also have a 400W Sparkle that's about the same in terms of noise.

If you want "quiet" look elsewhere.

I like the Antec temperature controlled power supply. If your case isn't running hot to begin with (like a regular clocked PIII) then, it really doesn't spin the fan very fast and generates very little noise. I have one and it is probably the quietest part of my sys. Even the Taisol HSF is louder and that's supposed to be the quietest HSF on the block.

What I do know is that PCPower and Cooling has an extremely quiet power supply. I know because I have one. It's so quiet that I can hear my chipset fan and my Geforce fan over it.

I was thinking about getting an Enermax, because I thought I need more power, but I've heard that they're really not that quiet. I wish I could try before buying.

The only reason I was thinking about upgrading is because I'm running a T-Bird at 1.4Ghz, a Geforce2 GTS Pro, 2 IBM's, CDROM, CD Burner, 3 case fans. And the power supply is only 275 watts.

I did call PCPower and Cooling about the 275watt version and they said their power supplies are built with such high standards that I shouldn't have any trouble at all running my setup. When I asked about upgrading to the 400watt version they said it was unecessary.

And they are not. The EG451P-VE is not from Enermax's "whisper" series. The EG351P-VE(FC), on the other hand, should be "whisper" quiet.

I have a regular Enermax 350, and it's actually not too loud.(better than my old Aopen that came with my case)
The whisper series should be really quiet...
