Yeah so i wanna take it off and put on a new heatsink......................do i need to clean off the old artic silver II and reapply it when i get a new HSF? What do you guys recommend for a good QUIET QUIET hsf? Thanks, volcano 6cu freaking ridiculously loud.

I've heard that the dragon orb 3 with 4000rpm is relatively quiet, but is it good enough for my cpu?

The dragon orb is not quiet. Nothing with "orb" in the name is quiet.

You should be looking to the Alpha PAL8045 with a quiet, low 80mm fan.

Yes you need to clean off the artic siver and reapply it. You want to look at the heatsinks that use 80 mm fans. Like the alpha 8045, Thermalright AX-7, Swifttech whatever its called, and the SVC GC68. SVC Good luck.

Do you have just the volcano 6cu or do you have a volcano 6cu+? The 6cu is a relatively quiet hs/fan.

6cu = 31dBA

6cu+ = 39dBA

If you do have a 6cu, then keep the noise rating in mind. In other words, you will have to get a hs/fan that is LESS THAN 31dBa.

Looks like the Glaciator II is louder than the Volcano 6cu.

http://www.cluboverclocker.com/reviews/heatsinks/mts/glaciator2/

Performance is the key issue here and the Glaciator II did pretty good as it cooled the overclocked CPU down to 45 degrees Celsius. That's not too bad, but what is impressive is that the Glaciator II did it with only a 29cfm, 36dBA cooling fan. You got it, no screaming Delta blowing your ear drums out!

I bet you had a 6Cu+. Get a basic Coolermaster like this. This $10 beast is amazingly quiet for being an Athlon fan.

You need to make sure you know what you have first, jinduy. The EP5-6I11 is rated at: 36.5 dBa.

I picked up the GC68 at SVC. It fit very neatly into the board (60mm base to 80 mm top). It is quieter than the inlet and exhaust fans I am currently using. Plus the price is excellent for the combo.

The glaciator isnt quiet...only compared to delta 7k's. If you want quiet either use something with an 80mm adapter or something with an 80mm fan right away.

I'm almost certain he has a 6Cu+, because I haven't heard many people complaining about 6Cu(not the plus version), if any, the complaints weren't expressed so strongly.

You all should hear what 6Cu+ sounds like. Go stand by your furnace when it's running. Now imagine having to listen to something like that the whole time you're at the computer. I have the EP5-6I11 and its night and day difference compared to 6Cu+. I threw my 6Cu+ away.

He wouldn't know the actual CFM. The rated CFM doesn't mean a crap, because it is only the no load air flow. A 35CFM 8,000RPM 60mm Delta will provide more air flow under load than 35CFM 80mm 3000RPM since higher RPM means greater static pressure.

Jerboy,

Thanks for you input. No really, we all could use some "positive" input!
