Oh yeah one more thing: Can any fan act as an intake fan or outtake fan? Do you reverse the voltage or what? Sorry I'm such a huge n00b at all this cooling stuff 😛

Yes you can and people usually use the same casing fans anyway. Just turn the fan around !! On one of the sides of the fan there should be an arrow pointing the direction of the airflow. Generally air blows out to the side where the label of the fan is.

Roots: for instructions on how to do the 7 volt mod, do a search in this forum or find instructions on most any modding site (I think overclockers.com is the place I read about it at). What you need to do to run at 7 volt is change a 4 pin to 3 pin adapter around such that the positive line will be the 12v + and the negative line will be the 5 v + rail. What does that mean? Get a 4 pin to 3 pin adapter, swap the wires on the 4 pin part of it around such that the red (usu, red) from the Power Supply connects to the black wire for the adapter (the black wire with the tiny wire leading to the fan). You will have to push in little metal tabs to remove the pins. This will make no sense to you until you mess around trying it... so google " 7 volt mod fan "

An alternative I learned recently from someone on this forum is to run at 6 volts by wiring your fans up in series. I did that recently with some L1A's but they seem to stay stopped when I interrupt their turning (whereas they kick right back up at 7 volts).

BTW: I really, really doubt your system temp will be 8 C higher than your CPU temp... I think your sensors might be a tad off or reversed.

the Quietest is one that has been 5-volt modded. they'll be silent but the air-flow will be so low too, right now i'm 48C idle, before i was 30C idle but the noise was unbearable

Yeah, I wanted to mention this too. You need to look at how your temps sensors are set because it's highly unlikely that your case temps is 8°C higher than your CPU idle temp. You really need to have a handle on what's what if you're going to be messing around with your case cooling..

Yeah, I think you're breaking the laws of thermodynamics or something. Think about it: your CPU can only be as cool as the air around it (and is, in fact, unlikely to even get close to that). I suspect you must be switching the temps, like maybe you think your system temp is your CPU temp and vice versa.

No, I'm just reading the BIOS from my SIS 655 Max motherboard, and the software I run in WinXP says the same thing! I'm confused as hell too, maybe they (SIS) screwed something up in the BIOS. I really don't know.

it happens. sandra swaps my temps too.
