I'm thinking of getting a Thermaltake Silent Purepower 360 watt PSU here
It goes for less than 40$ online. Now I know many people say Thermaltake makes poor quality products that cost more than average but based on the reviews on this power supply and how much you can get this for, I don't see the need to get anything else if silent and cheap is primarily what you're looking for.

you can check out anandtech's PSU review in the main page.

The Thermaltake Silent Purepower 420 looks like a good deal. It's not the cheapest, but it's the quietest. Very good perfomance too. If you're going for absolute silence (relatively....) then this is it.

Or Zalman if you can handle a few more decibels, lol.

I really needed a PSU because I bought a new whole new system but the included case power supply was not up to the task of powering my two drives and two CD drives.

I went to my phavorite philly crappy computer store expecting to pay an arm and a leg. And the guys there really don't deal with people who know about O/C a computer. I was actully suprised they had PSU's for sale.

Well I got this Future Power 400w p4 atx power supply for only 37 dollars. I figured I could take it back if it sucks. So I ran home excited that I would finally get to use my first new system in three years. And whadaya know it was outstanding. Absolutely no problems, no brown outs no nothing. And it overclocks my CPU really well. For a while I had Two optical drives, 4HD (one was a really old SCSI beast that sucked power like there was no tommorrow), 4 PCI cards, and a AGP card in it. No strange voltage dips. You can look around the net for a review of it (I read it after I bought it).

I'd say the 300w Forton @ newegg would be your best bet. I have one and it's very silent and pulls quite a bit of air due to the 120mm fan. Only $32 shipped to your door!

I'll 2nd the fortron. I recently got one and it is quiet and seemingly stable. I've read where many people are happy with this PSU at SilentPCReveiw.com. If you want a quite model do NOT get one with active PFC, but rather one without the (PF) at the end of the model designation.

See this Silent PC Review thread here.

And I'll third that. :) (Though I think my Seasonic is a bit quieter, they tend to be a little more expensive.)
