What is the best quiet PSU to get? I currently have a Sparkle 300w, but as i've had it for so long i've no idea how noisy it is compared to other PSU's - especially the newer ones which claim to be much more quiet. Like the Antec Trupower for example. Would appreciate some advice on this...thanks.

my Antec Truepower 430w is very quiet, and can automatically lower case fan rpm, based o the psu temp, if you want it to. Heard Enermax's are quiet too, so.... :)

I've tried a number of the PSU's that purport to be quiet. The quietest one I've found is the Zalman 3000A-APF. The Trupower is pretty good, but not as quiet, and I didn't find the Enermax to be quiet at all. I'm not suggesting you do it, but modding the Sparkle with a quieter fan will also work very well and be a lot cheaper. I also suggest you look here.

Haven't personally dealt with the new Antecs, but from all accounts they're very quiet. The Zalmans are extremely quiet, obviously beefy and well built- found my best price at Nexfan.....

Your Sparkle would likely work just fine with a panaflo 80mm L1A fan. I really wouldn't go with anything less robust.... several of the top rated units from Dr Tom's testing are rebadged Fortron/Source (Sparkle) units with less powerful fans...

Just got the ANTEC Truepower 330. VERY Quiet! Now (unfortunately) I can hear all the other parts making noise...gotta spend more $$$ to shut them up too!

I actually just moved from the 300W Sparkle to the Antec Tru330. There was a noticeable difference in noise, but you can definitely still hear it. However, I have 2 case fans and an aftermarket heatsink/fan combination, so the total system noise isn't a lot different. The sound that comes out of the Antec PSU is a different kind, it has a totally different timbre. I like it more, and I don't find myself noticing it during quiet times.

I have the Zalman and it is indeed very quiet. The Nexus 3000 is also supposed to be quite good, many say even quieter than the Zalman.

Quietest is quietpc.com PSUs. Quieter than Antec's true series and Zalman's. Reviews show it is constructed better than the Zalman's. Only thing is if you can afford them. I have 2 of them.

Is the Truepower more noticeably louder than the Zalman? I'm thinking about getting rid of my Truepower 430 for the Nexus or Zalman but I'm not sure if 300W will generate enough power for my rig.

Thanks!

The Zalman is quieter than the Antec but not by that much. I've read because of the construction the Zalman may have some heating issues.

Most people think it's thier psu thats loud when it is really thier video card. My rig is nearly silent with the exception of my vid card.

Thanks for the input. I may just keep my Antec then since it seems quiet enough for me. But I see what you mean about the videocard. I use to own the Gainward GeForce Ti4400 and the fan was so loud. I replaced it with a Radeon 9700 Pro and the onboard fan is much more silent.

I switched over from a Sparkle 350W PSU to an Antec True430 and man what a difference. I can't believe how quiet it is. Of course now I can hear all of the other noise. :( That will be fixed as soon as my new HSF arrives. Muwhahaha...
