I don't know if you overclocking freaks and cracking dudes care, but I sure was annoyed that my PS fan kept whirring all night when my computer went to Standby. I tried driving the PS fan off of one of the MB header, which shut down on Standby. But of course the PS got hot, since it's still active.
So my solution was to install a little 12V relay driven off the MB headers. Then with the relay in the inactive state I drive the the PS fan through a little pot - in active mode it gets the full 12V. Then I could control the speed of the PS fan when in Standby. I could turn it down so that the PS was just nicely cool and the fan was nearly silent.
I glued the pot to the relay and the relay to inside of the PS case, with a tiny hole drilled to adjust the pot.
Works beautifully!
For what it's worth,
