Heya all,

Yes I looked in this forum for my answers...didn't really find much.

I am looking for a quiet slot-1 cooler...period.

I have a p3-700 with a golden orb that WAS quiet until recently the damn thing started rattling. I used compressed air...no effect. I took it apart and applied some oil....no effect. Noisy as ever.

Thermaltake says "..not covered under warranty..." since the fan is still working.

Any suggestions? reviews? links?

I'm sooo tired of buying nice sleeve/ball-bearing fans that end up rattling after a few months.....I have little dust in my system as I have filters installed.

Thanks,
Souka

Edit: I'm an idiot. I have a slot-1 board, but a flipchip CPU w/converter card I can't believe I didn't mention this.....duh.....

What's your budget like?

On my sister's P3 450, I wanted to quiet down the whole system. She happens to have my old Tennmax P3TF on there, and I took off the two 50mm fans and stuck on a Panaflo L1A 80mm fan. It hangs over the top, but it provides plenty of cooling. I even tried it at 7 volts and the system had no problems, but I left it at 12V in the end as a saftey measure.

The ideal heatsink for a Slot1 CPU with an 80mm fan, however, would be the GlobalWin VOS32 *provided you don't have the sideways power-supply orientation as seen in the Inwin A500, for instance*. Here is a link to the VOS32: VOS32 at 2Cooltek. The stock fans are noisy, but an 80mm Panaflo L1A would fit on there nicely with zipties, and be really quiet (they are rated at just 21dB). Granted, you will pay a lot for this setup since I don't think you can get both the heatsink and the Panaflo fan from any one vendor.

Another idea would be an Alpha P3125 with quiet fans. Alpha with 16dB fans at Phamcomputer Now this route might eat most of your DIMM slots. I have owned the Vantec P3 5030, by the way, and it tended to make quite a bit of noise. That VOS32 with a quiet 80mm fan is probably the best way to go if cost is not an object. Hope that is some help. :)

Buget is limited by my cheapness. :)

I want to keep the total under $30 (incl shipping).

I may just yank the fan off and put some old pentium fan on......

System cooling is pretty good as I didn't hook up my CPU fan just recently by accident...cpu temp ran a bit higher than norm, but I didn't really notice.

I run the CPU at like .15v under the default...runs just fine.

Try using a large HSF such as the TaiSol CGK742092 and putting a small 40mm pentium fan on it. But the 700E may put out too much heat for a 40mm fan to cool, in that case, see if you can find a low profile, low speed 50x50x10 fan, which should be good enuf. The stock low profile 60x60x10 on the Taisol ain't all that loud either and cools well enough for some good oc'ing.

If you can swing $35 shipped, you could get the Alpha PEP66 with a very quiet 60mm fan from here. Or try a Forum Search in the For Sale/Trade area for "PEP" and see what you find. Nice heatsink and you can always sell it later when you don't need it anymore.

edit: doh, forgot to mention that if you are looking in FS/FT, try for one with the Sanyo Denki fan, or else a Panaflo L1A (rare) or the Adda low-rpm model as seen in that link I gave. The Sunon, YSTech and of course Delta fans are all "loud."
