Hey there...

Just a quick Q. Some months back, I read it was possible to set a Maxtor DiamondMax into so kinda silent mode, by placing jumpers in a special way.
Since I am quite fed up with the whining noise from my DM plus 45, and don't really care if it runs a bit slower, i am quite curios, if this is true.
After measuring its running temp, I realize that I wont be able to fit it in a silencer casing, as it will overheat. So how do I manage making it more silent.. if I pull out the plug, and thus only run on my Quantum disk, everything is soooooo sweet. It really can't be true that my DiamondMax is a whinge like that.

You don't actually set any jumpers to control the noise, it's done thru a software utility called amset.exe.
