quiet hs for p4 478

Just get the Zalman 7000A/B AlCu. The rest of your system is probably not geared for a silent PC so you won't notice any difference in noise between a passive heatsink and the Zalman at 7V. The Zalman comes with a fan controller and the newer "B" revision has the improved version of theat fan controller (Fan mate 2 as opposed to 1 in the "A" revision). Your PSU and case fans will be noisier than the Zalman.

I have a PC Power and cooling silencer 360 watt PSU and 2x80mm case fans. it's pretty quiet, I can mostly hear the stock fan though which has gotten louder I think (is that possible?)

the zalman looks like a quiet one, but I can't find the B revision anywhere Nickel, its not on frozencpu or newegg (I dont know many sites)

Also, the case fan closest to the CPU should be exhaust right? just making sure =p

Zalman 7000a ALCU

I'll second that.Don't bother spending the extra $10 on the all copper version either,it's heavy, doesn't offer improved cooling & appears to become shoddy looking sooner.

be nice to find one where you didn't have to pull the motherboard out to install it. I have a Vantec Aeroflow and it's noisy compaired to my system fans and my PSU is the Enermax 460 Whisper II. Now I need a quiet HSF. To lazy to pull the MB out to install the Zalman.

The B revision is available in Asia and Europe but it hasn't been released in the USA yet. The only difference between A and B revisions is that the B rev has a slightly larger knob on the fan speed adjuster in response to user feedback. Functionally they are identical.

cool, I found it for 29.99 at directron. Tax only for TX residents, just my luck!

amazon has the 7000A as well for $29.99. no tax for me in CA, maybe no tax for texas either.

no picture but its the 7000a Al/Cu, i just got me one myself

elwood, the Xp-120 looks good but I don't think I can fit the recommended 120MM fan. Besides, I don't OC at all so it might be over kill for me.

Thanks for the amazon link Jarb0y!

On its lowest setting the Zalman 7000a Al/CU is practically inaudible and will provide more than adequate cooling for a 2.26 Northwood.
It's one of the best designed heatsinks I've worked with and at $30 well worth the money.

My $0.02 anyway
