Quiet HS for 1800+

I'm considering a quiet HS for my 1800+

Vantec 6027D
Thermalright SK-6
Swiftech MCX370

I could buy either of these with a quieter fan, but I don't really know how loud they are to begin with.
Which of these heatsinks would work best with a quieter fan, should that be necessary?

Thanks.

PAL8045 with a slow 80mm Papst fan. I doubt you will be able to hear this puppy, unless you put your ear very close to the fan. You can get both items at inflow direct. I got my SK-6 with 30cfm delta from them and last time I checked they have very good reseller rating.

<< PAL8045 with a slow 80mm Papst fan >>

I had not considered the 8045 because it's so big and heavy...
Looks like Papst are available in two configurations:

Quiet: 27cfm/21dBA
Ultra quiet: 19cfm/12dBA

Those are quiet fans! I'm just concerned about moving the PC around with that heavy heatsink.. ?

The 8045 is big and heavy, but it's practically impossible to crush the core. It's not the regular mounting, it uses the four holes in your motherboard to screw into sort of. People are having lots of success with that HSF. Might look into it.

Looks like the 8045 will fit my Epox 8KHA+ but I'll have to grind the corner of the hs to clear a cap... may be a good excuse to buy a Dremel or RotoZip! :)

But, will I be able to overclock a XP 1800+ a bit using the PAL8045 with a SLOWER fan? I don't want a Delta jet engine ;)

Well, I wouldn't do any OC'ing with the Papst fans. For a stock setup, nothing beats PAL8045 with the Papst in terms of quietness, except water cooling which is many times more expensive. If you want to OC, I would recommend you pick a more powerful fan, like the 39 CFM (My pick for noise/performance ratio) or 43 CFM Sunon. This will still be quiet (not Papst-like silent tho), or you can take the 50CFM Sunon if you can take some noise (I wouldn't consider it quiet tho) and OC even further. The 68CFM delta will be definitely loud.

The SK-6 is not a good performer without a fast fan. It picks up the heat really well, but it won't get rid of it without the help of a screeching delta. I noticed my temps drop dramatically (42-->35) when I just put a 120mm fan on top of the 60 mm sunon fan.

I've switched to the Alpha 8045 and my temps are so low that I've resigned to keeping my case closed instead of leaving the side open. My temps, with side closed, is 38 and only 42 at full load. This is with no case fans.

Does anyone have any experiaces with the more cheaper quiet fans?

More specifically I was looking at the ThermalTake Dragon Orb 3 (A1132 - 4900RPM) version, and the TaiSol CGK760092 (4800RPM), both wich apear from the spec sheets to have very good dBA ratings (31 dBA, and 32 dBA respectivly). However in Anands review the dBA's are way off those figures. Are they just lying?

It seems odd though because the 7000 RPM version of the Orb has a dBA of 61 and the 4900 has a dBA of 60, acording to anands review. Does anyone have any actual experiance with these coolers?

BTW the CPU i'm looking at is the 1800+, but I won't overclock it.. My basic problem is that my current FOP32 / Duron 750 is comming to the end of the road and is also quite noisy, and I want to replace it with something faster and quieter.

I have the 8045 with a Sunon 40+ CFM fan and it's a world of quiet better then my Gladiator with a 60mm Delta or even Pabst fan.
I am talking HUGE difference in noise and it cools a little better. The only thing is now I can hear the Whine of my SCSI HD. Will I ever
be happy? Tune in tomorrow for these are the days of our lives.

Ok, I ordered the PAL8045 with this fan:

Papst 27cmf, 19dBA, 2050rpm, 3-pin

Looks like this fan has a tad more cfm than the ultra quiet one, but at 19dBA should still be very quiet.
