lol that's not good news. I haven't given the money to him yet, and I haven't opened the thing yet. Looks like I'll take it back to him and get something cheaper. Where can I find video cards at those prices? I'm looking at newegg and they are all expensive as hell.

I doubt he was trying to rip you off, that's not that bad of a Retail price for a brand new ATI. But if you shop around you can do a lot better. Newegg has already had GT's for either $300 minus $100 rebate or $280 minus $80 rebate, I forget which. You also could use the internet price search engines as I've seen one shop show it for about $212 w/o rebate. I'd never heard of the place before though. I got my new ATI off of Ebay for $168 (YMMV.) Of course Ebay is the riskiest way to go, you need to check the seller out very carefully.

Or he could grab a HIS X1900GT, X1900XT, X1900XT-X with IceQ 3 coolers.

To play BF2 @ 1800XT MAX, I would recommend at the very minimum a 1800XT preferably 512mb and if possible a 1900XT.

BF2 plays fine at "MAX" on an X850 so long as you have 2GB RAM, FYI. Playing it on an X1800 or X1900 will let you whack up the resolution to nice levels though.

I agree - BF2 isn't as GPU hungry as Oblivion or GRAW, so it can fly at 1920x1200, all settings maxed out, on an X1900XT.

TUNewbie, I got a HIS IceQ X1900XT on open box from NewEgg for $329 - I think above your price point, but I think the X1900XT is the sweet spot right now (until the 7900GTX's ever drop in price as well).

If anything, I can highly recommend the IceQ tech from HIS - it's an AC NV5R3 that I have on my outgoing 7800GT made for an ATI. It's DEAD quiet (unless I'm winding it up with ATI Overdrive), but runs HOT.

Good luck!!!
