with cards like the Elsa 920 GeForce 3, they come with a DVI connection, and regular vga.

my question is if I convert the DVI to VGA, and use the other vga will it let me use 2 monitors the same way having 2 video cards would??

if so, i think i would buy cuz i would eliminate something from my PCI bus (woohoo more scsi stuff)

I have no idea. But if you could do this it would probably be one of their selling points.

Hmm, interesting theory..

But I really don't think so, because they would brag about their card being capable of this.

No.
As yes the GeForce2MX is the only nVidia chipset that supports Dual Display. And I believe nVidia has stated that Dual Display will remain a feature of their MX line. So the "GF3MX" would be the next card to do it. The GF3 does not.

Now it's possible you could run two monitors off the video card, but they would have to be at the Same refresh rate, resolution and colour depth, and they would show the exact same pictures.

You couldn't use extended desktop, or zoom or anything like that.

And I'm not even sure you could do the duplicate.

Nope
Once you hook up something on the dvi connector the vga doesnt output anymore and vice versa.
