Quicktime ruined my PC! >:-(

My wife installed Quicktime so we could view the movie clips captured from our camera.

Well, I didn't like how Quicktime grabbed MP3 and MPG playback instead of a nice, full-screen viewer (lots to choose from.) No matter how many times I changed settings for both Quicktime and Media Player (etc) all MP3's were still automatically played in Quicktime in a browser window (Firefox) unless it was right-click downloaded and played from file, rather than just clicking the link for immediate playback.

So - I uninstalled the stupid program.

And the problem still exists! Now, if I click an MP3 link, I get a browser error looking for Quicktime! ARRGH!!! STUPID @$$%^ PROGRAM!!

I've gone through the registry and removed every reference to "quicktime" but I'm not sure what else to do... uninstall Firefox and reinstall it fresh? The wife will kill me if the only option is to reinstall the OS (I'd rather put Quicktime back IN!)

The wife clicking for quicktime to restore its preferences as default player everytime she plays a .mov file? 😉

Anyways, there is always quicktime alternative.

Definately not. She doesn't go changing settings. Wouln't explain MP3 either, except for iTunes. Maybe I could install another program that will grab all settings away from Quicktime... winamp?

Why don't you just change the Windows File Association?

Open up Windows Explorer - Tools, Folder Options - Go to the File Types tab. Find MP3 in the list and change it to WMP or whatever application you prefer.

I did that... Firefox will still play an MP3 in Quicktime if I click a link.
Windows will play an MP3 with my selected program if I click it off the desktop.

I suspect Quciktime has just infected my browser software, and removing that will solve the problem.

Time to back up my bookmarks.... :-/

Be sure to check
C:\Documents and Settings\**user Name**\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\**Profile Name**\extensions

QuickTime might have logged itself in there.

It might be saved in the mimeTypes.rdf??

Quicktime goes beyond the usual Apple bloat; I consider it malware.
