SANS mentioned that QuickTime 7.3.1 is available, resolving a vulnerability they'd reported on previously. Versions for Windows and Mac are available at http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/ .

If you have no actual use for QuickTime Player, you can also just uninstall it until such time as you do need it, rendering yourself invulnerable to QT exploits, known or otherwise. Same goes for other stuff you don't use, particularly Internet-aware apps.

Being still on dial up with no real broadband opportunities in my rural area, these semi perpetual needed upgrades to the apple quick time player and adobe acrobat have long ago inspired me to chuck the both.

Some how I don't miss these 20 to 40 MB upgrades that come every month or so. And its possible to find alternatives in other media players and the foxit PDF reader.

QuickTime Alternative is a more robust solution. It contains only the essential components that are required for viewing QuickTime content in your favorite browser. If you have Apple QuickTime installed be sure to uninstall it first.
