Quicktime movie rotation?

I have a friend with a Canon (I think) digital camera. She took a movie with the camera rotated 90 degrees. Now she wants to rotate that movie for "normal" viewing.
I did some searching but didn't find much other than buying the Apple Movie Maker program and I don't think she wants to spend any money and I'm not sure they even have a windows version. I tried doing this in XP's Movie maker but it wouldn't import a quicktime movie file.
Are there any relatively simple apps out there that will accomplish this and not cost a lot of money?
Thanks for any imput you can give on this!

Use either Windows Movie Maker or Virtualdub to rotate

Well, I just tried what you suggested. I'd tried last night but neglected to get the QT plug in. So, after doing that today I managed to convert to mpeg. However, neither WMM or virtual dub will import the file. Both say the file is "not supported". The file I created with TMPGenc does say it is an "MPEG Movie" file. I also tried to import the file into Nero but it wouldn't work either. Could very well be something I'm not doing right but I'm at a loss as to what that is. All was pretty straightforward with TMPGenc conversion. I even played the file with Nero Showtime.
Any ideas?

Thanks again for the reply. Ok, I downloaded virtualdubmod and was able to import and save as an avi file. Great! So then I was able to import it into Windows Movie Maker. However, I couldn't find any option to rotate the movie in WMM. I tried to go into TMPGenc for this and while it did "see" the movie file to import, when trying to do any conversion or get to any editiing options, I get an error box with the message Can?t load ?P3Package.dll?. Screwed something up again I guess. Any ideas on how to solve the rotation problem now that I at least have an edit-able file? Sorry to drag this out.

Update!! I got it done. After using virtualdubmod to convert I found a trial version of something called FadeToBlack that was able to rotate and save the file for me. Hooray!
Thanks for your assistance in this. It is greatly appreciated.

No problem. I'm curious though, couldn't virtualdubmod do the rotation? (under Filters --> Rotate [or was it Rotate 2])

Yes it could have. The Rotate does a 90/180/270 degree rotation. The Rotate2 allows for any angle, and involves much more processing.

Uhmmmm, yes, I just found out. I couldn't find any function for the rotation and when clicking on filters, there were none. Ok, I was a little dense on that. 😱 I just clicked on "add" and added the rotation filter you mentioned and reprocessed the video and all was rotated fine. Oh well, leave it to me to make it harder than it should have been.
