i like to download movie trailers, most of which are in the qt format, to watch.

however, i have had to bear with the audio being out of sync with the video being played.

this would happen right at the start of the file playback, or sometimes gradually in the middle of playback.

i am running a C400 @ 540 with 256 mb ram.

what could be the problem?

What version of QuickTime are you using?

I am using v4 and have no problems whatsoever. Try tweaking the Sound Out settings in the QuickTime Properties control panel app... that might help.

hmm.. i can't check which version of qt it is. but i always get the message window telling me to update to qt 4 pro.

i have quite tweaking the sound out before but it seemed not to work. anyway what's the difference between directsound and waveout?

Well, on my Celeron 600MHz, SB Live 5.1 DE 384MB RAM, Liveware 3 and QuickTime Pro 4, Win2K Pro, I've never experienced any problems at all. My Sound Out settings are: DirectSound, 44.1KHz 16-bit stereo.

I think most likely you have some conflict somewhere, either hardware or software, but not immediately tracable since I don't knowm much about your system's hardware and software config.

Perhaps try a clean re-install of your system? Sorry, that's all I can suggest at the moment.

EDIT: One more thing, try clocking your processor back to normal?

thanks! don't think i will do a clean install of my system for qt... at least not until i feel like cleaning installing my system again.

will try tweaking the sound options in qt, and also the overclocking part.
