Quicktime Audio is staticy and cuts out after a while

For some reason when I try to play any quicktime movie, the audio is all garbled and staticy then it cuts out after a short time. It only happens with the most recent versions of quicktime, I used a much older version and my videos seem to run fine. Anyone got any ideas?

BTW, the version that doesn't work is any Quicktime 7 but quicktime 6 works.
