And that was with a file encoded at 25Mbps.

Gonna try this on my Dual G5 2.0GHz system now. Unfortunately, it's equiped w/ a FX5200/64MB video card.

So I just watched the NASA launch and Aimee Mann videos. Playback is very smooth, but I see jagged edges. The video card's obviously not up to par. However, I have the Aimee Mann Live at St Ann's DVD and the QT video looks much better than the DVD, much sharper images and seperation of lights and colors.

It's only of use if the decoder can access it. QuickTime doesn't have access past DirectDraw(i.e. no DXVA), and this is what kills performance. The Nero codec is a good example of what performance can be like with better video subsystem access even without specific video card acceleration of H.264.

PS Where's Goosemaster?

Does this preview allow encoding?

N/M just answered my own question. Anybody know if 7 Pro preview allows encoding?

Probably encoding via the Pro license? Just guessing there though...

I'm just happy that I started a successful thread. Doesn't happen often ;)

I'm ready to drop the $30 for Pro if anyone can confirm that h.264 encoding is functional (and will work from VOB).

I've been quite impressed with Nero Recode's h.264 encoding but I'd prefer to have files that are 100% compliant.

If it's like the Apple version of quicktime pro then yes you can encode w/H.264

i was under the impression that Nero Recode h.264 is 100% compliant with the beta High Profile.

From the clips that Goose has converted, very few people here have been able to get them to work with anything but Nero Showtime. But in the same token, I haven't been able to get the files I converted with Moonlight OneClick compressor to work either with QT7. But it works fine with MPC and a few other players.

Damn, I tried to run the 720p Batman on my PC, and got totally raped. Time to get a AMD X2 4400+ and G70 system.

QuickTime Pro's encoding quality better flat out fvcking rock or I'm going to be SERIOUSLY pissed.

Why?

1) Even after paying $29.99 for QT Pro you can't decode MPEG-2 without a $19.99 add in. Nevermind that I have several fully licensed MPEG-2 decoders installed.

2) Even after paying $29.99 for QT Pro and $19.99 for the MPEG-2 playback capability you still can't transcode MPEG-2 video with audio. You can do the video by itself no problem, but no audio.

So far I've attempted to get around this limitation by importing video only, then adding in the audio. Playback sucks, the audio is nowhere near synced with the video. No clue if this affects final output, if I try to cut a small clip to test with QT crashes.

I know this is a public preview but goddamn this is useless & buggy.

I guess I should have known.

Aimee Mann?

NASA Launch?

Wherezat?

EDIT: Seems the rape-age is strong with that Batman 1080 clip. On an Athlon64 @ 2.5 ghz (call it a '3700+') with 1gb ram (DDR500) and a GeForce 6800 with all 16 pipes unlocked....maybe 10-15fps throughout.

My rig gets 13-15fps solid with the Batman 1080p video. There were some bursts into the 20s, but without a solid playback rate, it's hard to tell how accuate the metere is.

You should know better than to post such a comment and not post your specs. I call your bluff.
