Somebody here must know what you take to dry up your sinuses. I've had a friggen chronic cough going on a year now. I'm on my second doctor for it, but he's not available. I called "Dial-A-Nurse", but they aren't open! Message said, "If it's an emergency, call 911, or go to the emergency clinic."

I've had a nasty damn flu since Thursday. Due to this cough, I can't get any sleep. Still have 101 degree temperature. What in the world do you take to dry up? God, help me! :(

Dimetap will dry you up real well. If you have a nasty cold, try Tylenol day and night. It has pills you take during the day, and sleepy pills you take at night. Works pretty good. Thera-flu is good to.

I have a Benadryl Antihistamin and Psudoephedrine 30mg/Acetaminophen 500mg mix. Either of those?

Anything with Psudoephedrine HCl in it will dry up the sinuses. Although if you're fighting a sinus infection, that's the last thing you want to do.

This is visgf talking.....

First of all, you should go to see a doctor.

Just a few questions to narrow things down:
-What seems to trigger the cough? It may be some type of intense allergies, possible asthma, or any number of respiratory problems.
-Are you coughing up anything or is it a non-productive cough? If it's non-productive, use a cough syrup with codeine. It's OTC if you just go and ask the pharmacist about it. If you're coughing something up, use guaifenesin products; these make the mucus thinner and easier to cough up. I would definately recommend the codeine product at night no matter what kind of cough you have because getting sleep is important.
-Are you a smoker or have you had extreme exposure to workplace pollutants? These two exposures can cause some serious lung problems. If you've been coughing for a year or so now, it could be something as severe as COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulminary Disorder). COPD is diagnosed if a person has had 2 or more periods lasting at least 3 months of chronic coughing. This is why I'm telling you to go to see the doctor. There aren't really any good OTC treatments for this, but it can be easily managed by prescription drugs and a few lifestyle changes.

Good luck!

BTW, does it hurt to touch your cheekbones or your forehead? If it hurts worse than anything you've ever done before than that means that you have a bacterial upper respiratory infection. Take some tylenol for the fever, and get to the doctor for some antibiotics. If it doesn't hurt to touch it, than it's viral and no amount of antibiotics in the world will help. For the congestion, try sudafed unless you have high blood pressure. If that is the case, use afrin nasal spray, 2 puffs twice a day for 3 days only. If you use afrin any longer than that, you will have rebound congestion and it will get worse.

Ah, called the pharmacy and he said to go for the Benadryl stuff, so long as I have no heart problems.

Thanks, and good night!

Thanks for the help. Long story about the "productive, clear liquid" cough. Been to a GP. Took X-rays, did blood tests, pulmonary tests and ruled out anything life threatening. Had the full regimen of asthma treatments. Took antacid type pills for a month. Nothing helped. He sent me to a specialist, who put me on more antacid type stuff. Said I need to be on it for two months to rule out acid reflux. He also put me on stronger asthma treatment. Nothing is working. I can live with the cough if I'm healthy, but I gotta get some sleep to shake this flu.

I just took two of those Benedryl things. That's gonna have to do.

Thanks Again!

No painful sinuses. They gave me antibiotics a couple times now... just to rule that out. Apparently, this isn't textbook anything.
