Hi, there, and thanks for taking the time to look over my message. I've been poking about, trying to find comparative tests or reviews of internal DVD-ROM drives, and I can't find any. With the amount of knowledge and helpful folks this forum has provided me in the past, I figured I'd pose the question here, and see what the consensus was.
I simply want a high-quality DVD-ROM drive that can access media (CDs taking first priority) and transfer data quicker than the rest. I'm looking for an IDE connect, and while I'm asking, I also wanted opinions on connecting my optical drives to my sound card- I will be playing CDs directly, and several drives have digital outputs; I will have an Audigy 2 as well as (probably disabled) digital-ready motherboard sound available. If I want to be able to play from either drive with the highest quality output, do I need a splitter, could I jump to the other board, or is it not possible or worthwhile at all? Any input would be sincerely appreciated, and I thank each of you for your replies in advance.
