Quickest, easiest way to drain a battery?

I have to drain one single AA rechargeable battery. I can only recharge batteries in pairs. And somehow I have one dead one and one with a bit of charge left. I want to recharge them but I need to drain this one first. Any ideas?

stick both batteries in a flashlight and leave it on?

I don't exactly collect resistors. But how is this for an idea? Can I try it?

I'd be carefull if you do, they can get really warm and probably if left too long gases can buildup in the battery itself and pop.


Had a guy in one of my college classes stand up and start screaming about his front pocket burning, and he starts to pull everything out. Well his pocket was full of change and one battery, seems the battery shorted out and heated right up...

I'd be carefull if you do, they can get really warm and probably if left too long gases can buildup in the battery itself and pop.

Yeah..

I've had that happen before. I always used to carry spare batteries for my discman while at work, and once .. my pocket really started burning, so I pulled everything out, and one battery and a couple of quarters were really warm.. :Q

not many flashlights that take only one cell

You put BOTH of them in...and turn it on. Light might not shine, but it will drain the battery nonetheless.

UPDATE!

I found a 1AA only flash light!

Go to Radio Shack, get a bulb between 1.0v to 3.0 vDC, a battery holder and some wire. Wire the bulb into a circuit so that you can place the battery into the holder and light up the bulb. It's ok if the bulb is dim.
Leave on for several hours.
Chill battery. repeat. Chill again repeat.
Charge Battery. Chill, repeat chargeing.chill again to store or use immediately. If storing, charge before use.
Drain all batteries completely between chargings.
