Bought Quicken in 1994. Worked well.
Updated to Quicken 99. Worked well also, but required registration. Pain in the @ss - I had to call them again every time I reformatted since the registration code used to obtain the unlock key changed every time the program ran. OK fine.
Called in March. They said that as of April 30, 2002, they would no longer support online access by Quicken 99. Fine by me. Quicken 99 did all I needed.
Reformatted in May. Called up Quicken.
Eug: "Hi, I'd like to get my unlock key for Quicken 99."
Quicken: "Sorry, but we no longer support that product."
Eug: "I don't need support, I just want the key, which I paid for."
Quicken: "Sorry, but I no longer have the tools to give you that."
Eug: "I was told that I would no longer have support, but I could still unlock the program."
Quicken: "No, they took away ALL our Quicken 99 support tools."
Eug: "So you mean that I have to go out and spend the money again for a program that's only a couple of years old?"
Quicken: "No, there's a free trial of Quicken 2002, for 60 days."
Eug: "So I will still have to pay after 60 days the full price of something I already paid for."
Quicken: "Yes."
Eug: Uh... thanks... :disgust:
Is Quicken still the best program for this? If there's is anything comparable which will understand Quicken 99 files, I'll consider switching over. I wonder about Microsoft Money these days...
