folks,

i've been a quicken user for a long time ... since the DOS (!) days, no less. for a long time i was very happy with the program and the significant improvements they made over the years. however, the past few years have seen what i would call a steady downward trend in the quality of the program, and intuit in general:

1) the introduced the crummy 3-tier system for the program. the premier version offers little if anything of value, at a wildly inflated cost.

2) in the past 3-4 years there have been few if any real changes or improvements to the program, yet every year they introduce a new, more bloated version. most of the additions have been links to their over priced online service.

3) their tech support continues to slide in value and increase in cost. they support only last years version of the program, everything else is pay-as-you-go. for the bugs i've encountered the only solution is to BUY the new version at a bloated price. what kind of support is this?

4) they still don't handle some basic investment functions correctly. this has been a source of frustration for me for years!

my latest problem (using 2003 premier) is that my data file has become corrupted. they have no way to find the problem or fix it. i am now thinking about moving to money rather than pay for quicken 2005 to get my problem resolved. money's pricing seems more reasonable. i've downloaded the trial version and have spent about a day learning how to use it and get the same info out that i used in quicken. so far it seems pretty good, tho there are a few features i miss - most notably, there doesn't seem to be any way to save multiple, different versions of the same report. anyway, i'd like some feedback from money users or anyone who has used both programs. which did you settle on and why?

thanks in advance,

joe.

I've always liked quicken better since YEARS and YEARS ago when I was 16 and got my first job...

But Money is much better on the PPC. It doesn't need to be synched with the PC like quicken does.

MS Money has a better user interface IMO, I'm not great w/ finances, but using MS Money I don't feel overwhelmed :)

i haven't used the latest versions of quicken
since Money is basically free after rebate when bought with TaxCut.

points 1 and 2 apply to Money too. I never used Quicken so I can't compare, but Money has been good for me for the last 6 years.

Without a doubt, MS Money!

I have used quicken and didn't really think about using Money. However, Canadian version of quicken is pure BS as they got this BS license thing going on: you have to pay $50 each freaking year in order to keep your license. Otherwise, it just won't work. I don't know why and where they got this idea that Canadian users should pay extra $50 every year when U.S users can just use it without that.

It's then I switched to Money and found out that Money, indeed, is much better than Quicken. The interface is very straight-forward not to mention it's faster, less buggy, has more useful functions than quicken. Well, it's just better.
