Intuit shut off online function of Quicken 2010 back in April, and when I checked on an update I found BAD reviews and that to handle any investment accts I would need Quicken Premier. First I waited on bug fixes in Quicken Premier 2013, then waited for 2014 to come out, and reviews are worse.

Most places Quicken Premier is $85 discounted right now, a few on ebay etc for $66, which is a bit hard to swallow for what it does and how it hasn't materially changed in a decade or more, or at least not improved, but it sounds like its still full of bugs and issues.

Any realistic alternative, kind of pesky to manage a number of accts via web, but I limp along, and I am seriously considering continuing to do so.

Quicken has been trash imo for quite a few years now. They force upgrades for no good reason other than to pressure people into cashing out on their latest degraded bug-filled bloated pile of cr@p, imo of course.

Many people switched to Mint online, altho since quicken bought them, I have to assume they've heavily fecalated all over that by now as well.

Maybe I'm a Quicken sheep or groupie. I have upgraded my Quicken version software program every year since 1994 (DOS). I used to like the Quicken/Turbo Tax bundle, but they don't do that the same way that they used to. One year Turbo Tax even required online verification/password every time it was installed/reinstalled, just like most WINDOWS versions. I think that was 2003.

Any way, Quicken never gets that much better/different every year but as I said I'm a Groupie. Same as Windows - I've had every iteration. Big changes : Na.

Quicken ALWAYS fixes the problems - they have at least 12 updates this past year alone for version 2013.

Every year, I usually get the update through ebay, but this year I got the 2014 H & B hard copy NIB version from Amazon for US$48.00. If you really like to upgrade yearly like me, this is fantastic compared to the official price for H & B as US$112.00.

Either you like Quicken or you don't. It must be a hard/difficult field to enter since the only competition was/has been MS Money, and that died as our US Govt anti-monopoly position prevented MS from buying Intuit. And then, MS threw in the towel instead of making a better program that would improve people's experiences with personal financial software! Mint.com may be an option, but Intuit seems to own that as well. I don't know any other software that competes with Quicken. There is no Apple vs MS with this situtaion. While I would like to move to another program, there just ain't another for an old-timer (1990's guy) like me.

Do I like WIN 8.1 - a bit. Could it be better for my SPECIFIC situation - YES, a little!

Same goes for Quicken and, ahem, my sacrosanct WordPerfect!
