Are a Celeron 400 and a Celeron 1.4Ghz processor interchangable?

I've got a computer running a Celeron 1.4ghz processor and it seems to be having some problems. Can I put my Celeron 400mhz processor in the motherboard and will the motherboard detect it and run like normal?

I thought the two were different, but can't remember how exactly.

no. celly 400 is ppga platic slot. physically same but idfferent voltage.
celly 1.4 is fcpga. same slot, much lower voltage. unless your motherboard supports it implicitly, or you can adjust the voltage a lot in the bios, you'll fry the chip.
