Quick Xbox360 Video Output Question

The Xbox 360 VGA and HDMI cables can always be relied upon to output 1080p on a 1080p monitor/TV.

The Xbox 360 component cable has the capability to output 1080p on some 1080p monitor/TVs, but some TVs specifically disable the ability to feed it 1080p content over component as a copyright protection measure. If necessary, I'm sure a list has been compiled somewhere that says which TVs will allow 1080p over component.

It does, yes. That's what I use (VGA) on my Bravia.

As far as component goes, I dont know of a TV that support 1080P via component, but I'm not on the up-and-up with HDTVs anymore. Apparently todays component video cables will not be able to transfer the 148.5 MHz signal needed to accomodate a solid picture at that resolution (thanks google).

It didnt work for me when I tried to do it wit my X360.

Great, thanks for the spot on info 🙂
The TV i'm looking at has 2 component, 2 hdmi and 1 vga input... I've already got 2 component sources other than the 360 so I was looking to stay away from component anyway and go stratight with VGA.

Most Samsung HDTVs support 1080p via component. That's how my 360 is currently connected and it works perfectly.

Ever have any artifacting, signal loss, or any other troubles with your 360?

My Westinghouse does 1080P Via Component too.

I've never seen any. The picture quality seems to be just as good as what my PS3 outputs and the PS3 is doing 1080p via HDMI. No complaints at all.

My Vizio does 1080p over component as well, and no, I've never noticed any video problems of any sort.

Make sure that your TV will support 1080p over VGA. Just because you have a TV that does 1080p doesn't mean it will do that resolution over all inputs. Hell, some of the earliest 1080p televisions didn't accept a 1080p signal at all, it just upconverted everything to 1080p, therefore it was 1080p.

Luckily, it seems that 1080p through all compatible inputs is becoming more the rule than the exception like in the past, but do your homework before you get your TV home. Check out the user comments over at AVSforum.com, it's sure to have a thread.

Also, one more post, I swear this is the last. Just so you know for the future, here's how it breaks down with the 360 connections:

HDMI and VGA
- Supports 1080p in all games (all will upconvert automatically if not already 1080p).
- Supports 1080p with the HD-DVD add-on.
- Will upconvert all regular DVD's to 1080p.

Component
- Supports 1080p in all games (all will upconvert automatically if not already 1080p).
- Supports a max of 1080i with the HD-DVD add-on.
- Will NOT upconvert regular DVD's, they play in their native 480p format.

Save that post! Very useful information.

i'm not so sure the vga cable supports 1080p

i have one and a 24" acer lcd and I can't get it to run in 1080p

i can get 1080p from my ps3 to the monitor through hdmi

best i can do through vga from the 360 is 720p

The VGA cable definitely supports 1080p, something is wonky with your setup.
