I am reinstalling 98SE upgrade. I am the original licensed owner but threw out my old windows progs in a major cleanout. What is the file 98 wants to see to permit the installation of the upgrade CD?

Never mind - I found my 95 CD - pray de lord

Hmm, I dunno if this is the case on Win 98, but in WIn 95, you would make a floppy that has win.cnf on it (just create a file named it, it can be blank) and that would work, but I dunno about 98. I never had to try it 'cause I've still got 2 copies of 95 so, give it a shot. Hope it works!

thanks,I'll try that. I had a full version of 95 and a full set of 3.1 on floppies ( a museum collectors item!) and pitched them all in a cleaning frenzy a while back. Doh!

You can use the win 95 cd or the 3.1 disk number 1 when it asks you, just put it in and take it out when after it recognises it.

you misunderstood me - I threw those discs away (whoever thought I would need 3.1 again!?) .... anyone got a 3.1 disk they can send me the relevant file off?
